Keystroke Macro

Postby Dami on Mon Nov 08, 2010 9:05 pm

I worked for a while trying to set up a keystroke macro for an existing menu option and (quite easily) messed it up (this is NOT an intuitive process, BTW). Now, though the menu option shows that there is no keystroke shortcut assigned to this menu option, I cannot use that menu option at all, either with shortcut or mouse click. I get a "Macro being loaded is an incompatible version" error. How the heck do I clear that error so I can assign this keystroke?

Thanks.

Hi,
Did you assign the keystroke macro to the same key combo as the menu item was assigned? What are you specifically doing when you get the version incompatible error? What is your Multi-Edit (ME) version?

Thanks,

Version 11.04.00

First, I recorded a macro and assigned the keystrokes to it Ctrl+Alt+Shift+A. I think running it worked.
Second, I think I tried to assign that macro to the menu option File > Close All. It didn't work. The key assignment showed up in the menu, but the functionality didn't.
After that, I have no idea what I did. I have tried so many different things, I really don't know where it went wrong.

I also tried uninstalling and reinstalling the program with the same mess.

Hi,
Sounds like the damage is to the config files. The following post will help you locate the config directory
viewtopic.php?t=2013
With Multi-Edit(ME) NOT running, delete the files MeConfig.db and Wcmdmap.db. Then restart ME and it should work properly.

Thanks,

Thank you!!!

Edited to add: The program just doesn't seem to like assigning a keystroke to the Close All command. I guess I'll have to do it the mouse way after all. Again, thanks for your help. I can at least use the mouse method now. :)

No you can't assign recorded keystroke macros to menu items. You can assign a key sequence to fire them off, but they are not compatible with the menus and other commands.

On reading this post, it sounds as if what Dami wants to do is simply to assign a key combo to the File | Close All menu item. That is easy ( ) to do, and does not involve keystroke macros at all.
Go to Tools | Customize and press the Menu button.
Select your main menu and press Edit.
Find the File | Close All menu entry in the scrolling window, and press Edit.
Press the ellipsis (dot-dot-dot) button that follows the Close All command.
    Press the Edit button.
Press the ellipsis button that follows the Primary Key field.
Press your key combo to assign it to the command. (In your case, press Ctrl+Shift+Alt+A.)
OK/Close your way out of all (!) dialog boxes.
And you now have File | Close All assigned to the key of your choice! :o
